Factory Injector Servicing
Flow testing - Fuel Injector Repair - Ultra Sonic Cleaning

Brief overview of a factory fuel system

When your vehicle, motorbike or marine motor is designed in the factory, the fuel system is designed to run to specific emission standards to ensure it operates at it’s intended for optimal performance.  These fuel systems have been designed by engineers usually following a system like this:

Return system

fuel tank -> fuel pump -> fuel lines -> fuel filter -> fuel rail -> pressure regulator -> return line back to tank

Dead end system

fuel tank -> fuel pump -> fuel lines -> fuel filter -> pressure regulator -> fuel rail (dead end)

There are are many variations to these designs including the placement or type of filter and rail set ups.  Some manufactures opt for internal filtration by having a built in fuel pump/internal fuel filter module.  All of these designs are purposely intended to operate under the factory fuel system setup and work with a matched set of injectors for that particular engine.  Manufactures can typically allow up to a 5-6% variation across factory injector flow rates however all spray patterns will remain the same style as chosen for that particular make/model.

An example of the dead end fuel system would be those that are typically found on factory LS motors.  These systems are great when new however, over time, fine debris or rust particles make their way past the vehicles factory in-tank filter set up and make their way into the fuel rail.  With the common short bosch injectors installed from factory (no injector filter baskets fitted) the debris ends up getting stuck in the rail and eventually enters the injectors causing them to seize & alter fuel rates ultimately resulting in poor performance or an engine misfire.

How we approach our factory injector cleaning and servicing

With the all the information outline above, we take our injector servicing very seriously.  After many years of working in the petrol fuel injection industry we have carefully analyzed common issues that are frequently found in factory EFI set ups.  Although we aim for an efficient turn around time, we do not rush any of our injector jobs for the sake of getting quantity done over quality.

Our process involves:

  • Getting as much information from the customer – vehicle make/model/year/fuel type used/reported problem
  • Visually inspecting for:
damaged o-rings worn or hardened manifold seals
    carbon deposit build up
    fuel system contamination
  • Testing of coil ohm reading
  • Before flow testing results (if applicable)
  • Striping down the injector removing all serviceable parts including o-rings
    buffers
    manifold seals
    extension caps
    filter baskets
    spacers
    etc…
  • Externally cleaning and removing contaminates, dirt, rust, staining (where possible)
  • Deep multi-stage ultra sonic cleaning (no rush, visually clean results must be observed before processed is finished)
  • Refitting all renewed and matched seals and serviceable components
  • Multi-stage flow testing at various RPM, pulse widths etc… inspection of spray patterns and consistency
  • Final flow test and data results labeled accordingly to match each injector
Below are some results we achieve in order to get our customers back on the road and have their petrol fuel injectors operating as they should. Prices vary due to serviceable parts required.  Refer to our main Services Page for a brief run down.
